Thanks for participating in Bike to Work Week 2018!

Thursday, June 7, 2018

It was a great week of cycling, and a trend that we hope to see continue - not such a big deal to set aside a little more time to get there, right? And the positive spin offs are the best - exercise, time to think (or not think), clean air, easy parking. While we hope you keep it up while the season permits, we also hope to keep growing our local Bike to Work and School Week initiative. Any thing you thought of that could have made it better or more accessible to you? Give us a shout at airqualityscoutisland@shaw.ca with your ideas.

We added up to one more rider than last year, 90, but managed to rack up an additional 270 kilometers! Amazing. And saved 413 kilograms of greenhouse gases from going into the air. Booyeah!

Congratulations to Mark Wintjes - our high kms prize winner this year with a whopping 204 kms. Swing by Red Shreds to pick up your prize Mark, and keep on cruising around in that crazy recumbent!

Thanks again to all our supporters including the amazing coffee shops and our local bakery that keep us nourished - the Gecko Tree Cafe, Bean Counter Bistro, New World Cafe, Smashin' Smoothies and Taylor Made Cakes. And an exceptionally huge thank you to the bike shops that not only provided all the prizes for the week but that also put us on the map as a bike friendly community (mecca even) - you guys are the best.

And thank you, again, for getting out and riding - making the world a better place one pedal stroke at a time. Bicycles can do that - I'm sure of it.

See you next year!
