Dust off your bikes and don your helmets! If you’re not already biking to school, it’s a great reason to give it a try. Biking to school is an excellent way to get to school and work, while spending quality time with your children.
Bike to School & Work Week is a free, fun, week-long provincial celebration of cycling to encourage people of all ages to use their bicycle as an active mode of transportation. Improve your health and air quality by cycling to school, work, and where ever you need to go!
Active transportation not only improves children’s health and well being, it also improves air quality and reduces impacts of climate change. Research also shows that physical activity improves attention span and academic achievement. Driving our kids to and from school may be robbing them of an important source of daily physical activity.
See the 'Resource' section for info on safe cycling with your children and family!
Need a bike or have a bike to donate? Check out the Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society's 'Bikes for All' Program. Contact wastewise@ccconserve.org / 250-398-7929.
Regardless of how you choose to participate, every school or team needs a local champion (or Team Leader)! A champion (or Team Leader) can be a teacher, other staff members, parent or student!
