Greater Victoria

About Us

The Greater Victoria Bike to Work Society is where Bike to Work Week began 24 years ago!

We are a registered non-profit society governed by a volunteer board of directors whose mandate is to encourage and promote the use of the bicycle as a viable form of transportation. We accomplish this by organizing the province's largest annual Bike to Work Week event and teaching Bike Skills courses to children and adults.

What We Do:

  • Provide bike education and skills courses at schools and workplaces

  • Educate cyclists and the general public about the importance of bike safety

  • Encourage an inclusive and supportive biking community

  • Partner and support local, independent businesses throughout Greater Victoria

  • Work with the local government and community organizations

Who We Are:

Sarah Sproull- Interim Executive Director

Sarah’s passion for cycling began while training for long distance triathlons. She is an avid cyclist, enjoys discovering new places around the lower island while on two wheels. Sarah has been coordinating sporting events such as the Oak Bay Half Marathon and Sidney Seaside 10K for the past six years. When not working for Frontrunners and planning events, Sarah loves spending her time hiking, camping, and fishing all over Vancouver Island.

Courtenay Nielsen- Bike Skill Coordinator

Courtenay is a bike enthusiast who spends her time riding bikes, fixing bikes, cycle touring, dreaming about bikes and since joining the GVBTW Society, coordinating bike skills courses.  She’s never met a bike she didn’t like. She believes that going places by bike can be a joyful, empowering, and efficient experience and she wants to spread the good word!
