About

It’s spring in the Bulkley Valley--time to get out in the garden, bask in the sunshine, and dust off the ol’ bicycle for a cruise.

May 28 to June 1 is the sixth annual Bike to Work Week in Smithers!

We all know that riding a bike is just a plain old good time, but it’s also a fantastic way to get in shape, save your wallet from the gas pumps, get your whole family out together, and improve our air quality. You might produce some Co2 huffingand puffing, but it’s nothing compared to what a vehicle pumps out. Motor vehicles create more air pollution than any other single human activity. If everyone in Canada chose an environmentally friendly form of transportation one day a week like cycling or walking, vehicle emissions would be reduced by 20 percent! Using active transportation is one way to help keep our air clean and support an active lifestyle.

Registerlogin and track your kilometres as you commute to errands, events, or wherever you head to on your bike instead of in the car!

Community members of all ages are encouraged to get out on the road with others and feel supported as you make the transition from four wheels to two. Local Businesses, the Town of Smithers and local partner orgnanizations are excited to have put together a week filled with all things cycling. There will be various celebration stations at lunchtime throughout Smithers at which participant can meet up to get some goodies and collectively enjoy the health and social benefits of cycling. Bike to Work Week is a fantastic opportunity to practice sustainable transportation and is a great way to spend more time outdoors in the beautiful Bulkley Valley, and we look forward to seeing you out there!!

Bike to Work Week is organized each year by Smithers Bikes!, a volunteer committee that comes together to improve the promote bikes as fun, everyday transportation.
