Three days in and it looks like everyone is just getting warmed up! We're super excited to see all the kids out on bikes, and the adults too! People braving the construction, using the incredible mountain bike trail network as an alternative to the streets, accessing any and all routes that can be pedaled.
So great to see everyone out on bikes yesterday! It was even the talk of CBC - did you catch their program all about why people do and don't cycle their commute? Catch it here if you missed it. Anyone else ride home in yesterday afternoon's wind gusts? I had to put both feet down at a stop light to not get blown over, BUT it still felt so good to be out and about.
Thanks to all who posted photos to the Facebook page! Yesterday's draw prize winner was Alex (submitted by Tracy Short). Way to go Alex!
Bike to Work and School Week is here!! Time to get those pedals moving. Check out our local coffee shop/bakeries for some sweet deals and remember to post a pic from your commute to our Facebook page to be entered to win the daily draw. Cycling is such a great way to get around, get exercise, clear the air, and just plain old have fun - we're super stoked to fuel that any way we can. And super stoked on your participation! See you out there!
The numbers have been crunched for Bike to Work and School Week 2017. Congrats to everyone who participated for logging some serious kms and having a great time doing it! We had some killer commuters this year. Prizes for most kilometres racked up during the week go to: Adults - Rob Haley (for the second year running.
Well, Bike to Work and School Week is over, but there's no reason why you can't keep that momentum rolling! We encourage you to keep pedalling your commute whenever you can - the more cyclists we have out there, the more the decision makers will understand and take action on our need for improved cycling/pedestrian infrastructure. Did you know that Williams Lake has an Active Transportation Committee?
Yeeeahh! It’s Day 5 and maybe the last day of your work week! Have you been out every day – maybe you can keep it going over the weekend? Ride out to the lake, over to grocery store, or wherever you might normally drive, or just go for a lovely, relaxing cruise around. Regardless of where you ride your bike, remember to log those kilometres. We’ve got prizes for the highest kms, and logging just a single trip enters you in the grand prize draw (cycling trip for 2 on Croatia’s Dalmation Coast! Aah, dream!) Pedal, Post, Win!
It’s Day 4 of Bike to Work and School Week! Only 2 days left in the work/school week to ride. Unless you work on the weekend, in which case – yay! – 4 more days to ride! We are sure you’ve noticed that riding your bike is great exercise, helps clear your mind from the day’s business, and is also just a fun time, but do you also know how much emissions you are saving by leaving your vehicle at home? When you log your routes everyday the biketowork.ca will tally up the emissions you’ve saved – ride your bike, breathe easy! Pedal, Post, Win!
It’s Day 3 of Bike to Work and School Week! It’s been so great to see the riders popping up on our Facebook page and on the streets downtown! Pedal, Post, Win! Tuesdays’s draw prize winner was Vicky Seland: Congratulations Vicky!
It’s Day 2! And another beautiful day to ride your bike to work, to school, to anywhere you need to go!
