Here’s a recap of Bike to Work Week 2011…

Is it Friday already?

Hopefully you enjoyed pedaling in this morning, have your routine worked out and are all ready to continue to bike to work next week and every week, or at least a couple of days a week through the summer?

The Celebration Stations were busy this morning;

At 19 Wing 31 stopped in to pick up a snack and say hi and another 25 kept pedaling to start their day.


At Lewis Park in Courtenay, 25 stopped to see what was happening at the Celebration Station and another 61 carried on over the bridge to work, or school, to go shopping or just for the fun of it! 
 


At the I-Hos Gallery, 32 said hello and another 30 flew by, i t will seem strange to not see Simon and Patti there next week…

Don’t forget to enter your results for the week, the grand prize draw for the Kona bike donated by Simon’s Cycles will happen in mid June.

Why not stop in at the Broken Spoke on the way home from work to celebrate the end of Bike To Work Week 2011, there is a BBQ from 4pm - 6pm, with all proceeds going to the Tour De Rock.

Fun on day four

It was another great morning to be on your bike, at Vanier High School, 10 stopped in and 9 rode by.



At the I-Hos Gallery, Simon’s Cycles had 27 drop ins and 31 ride bys and at 19 Wing, 31 stopped in, whilst another 25 flew by.

It was good to see Wing Commander Col Michel Lalumière there to cheer on the commuters heading in to work to start their day.

Here’s the events planned for tomorrow, in the morning, Celebration Stations will be open at;

Lewis Park (hosted by The Comox Valley Cycling Task Force)
7 – 9 am - The Eagle 97.3FM will be broadcasting live from 7.30 - 8.30am

19 Wing (corner of Military Row and Ryan Road)
6:30 – 7:30 am

I-Hos Gallery, Comox Road (hosted by Simon’s Cycles)
6:45 – 8:45 am

There will be coffee and snacks all day (well, as long as they last) at Trail Bikes, provided by The Freakin’ Coffeeshop.

On your way home from work, why not stop in at the wrap up BBQ at The Broken Spoke, downtown Courtenay from 4pm - 6pm?

Wet Wednesday

The weather was a little unpredictable today, a mix of showers and sunshine, but biking to work was still a great way to start the day! The Celebration Stations saw a few less people than yesterday, but it was good to see so many folks braving the elements regardless. 


At the Village of Cumberland Celebration Station, Mayor Fred Bates and David Durrant welcomed the 5 brave souls who ventured out in a rainstorm.

Meanwhile things were slightly drier outside the I-Hos Gallery, with 25 cyclists stopping in and 26 riding by.

19 Wing saw 20 bike commuters stop at their celebration station and the same number kept on pedaling…

It was a different matter for the bike commuters of the future at the Bike To The Playground event a little later, an amazing 46 pre-schoolers joined in the fun, riding from Simms Park to Lewis Park, brightening up the whole of downtown Courtenay with their smiles, balloons and decorations!

Hopefully tomorrow will be a little drier for everyone, don’t forget there are great deals on bike commuter accessories (including fenders and rain jackets) at Trail Bikes all week.

More than half the week has gone already, here’s  a reminder of tomorrows Celebration Station locations, why not stop in and compare stories and pick up a snack to help get you there;

Beautiful morning on day two

The sun was out this morning and so were the cyclists, enjoying their ride in to work.

The Celebration Station at the Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce Visitor Centre on Cliffe Avenue saw 10 people stop in and another 28 ride by….

Our friends at Rehab In Motion stopped in on their way to work and donated some water bottles and also provided some handouts on stretching for cyclists…

Meanwhile, outside the I-Hos Gallery, the Celebration Station was buzzing, with an amazing 49 people taking the time to stop and another 28 who kept on pedalling!

At 19 Wing 37 stopped in and another 27 just rode on in to start their day.

Off we go!

Even though the weather was a little grey, there was a great turnout at the various Celebration Stations around the valley this morning, as folks stopped in on their way to work to grab a snack, register and say hello…

At the I-Hos Gallery, the Celebration Station hosted by Simon’s Cycles saw 62 cyclists, 37 stopped in and another 25 flew by, enjoying their commute.

Thanks to The Eagle 97.3FM for joining us and broadcasting live from the beautiful spot on the estuary this morning. And a big thanks to Bike to Work BC President Richard Backus for stopping in to share in the celebrations!

Don’t forget you can stop by every morning this week, Simon and Patti will be there from 6.45am to 8.45am each day.

Meanwhile at Lewis Park in downtown Courtenay, the Celebration Station hosted by the City of Courtenay saw an amazing 100 people in the 2 hours they were there, 80 stopped in and 20 kept on pedalling.

It was good to see Mayor Phelps there to cheer on the commuters heading in to work to start their day.

There will be another Celebration Station at Lewis Park, between 7am and 9am on Friday morning, hosted by the Comox Valley Cycling Task Force.

Outside the gates of 19 Wing, 38 cycled to work, 25 had time to stop, whilst another 13 kept on going.
