Bike to Work

Our Roll Model Award recognizes a Team Leader that goes above and beyond to motivate his/her workplace to cycle. This year’s award goes to Kim Maclean. Here is Kim’s story:

The Bean Counters at Statistics Canada faced a challenge for BTWW - ‘Where to store bikes for the 11 team members who wished to participate?’ So we pulled resources together and received a lumber donation from the construction crew at Yellowhead Contracting, downloaded a bike rack plan from the web, brought in a few tools from home, recruited a few volunteers and made these 2 bike racks to hold 12 bikes during 3 lunch hours! We also organized a few lunch time rides on the beautiful Heritage River trails and a walk up to Connaught Hill to include our non-cycling office mates. We ended the week with a watermelon celebration and prize giveaways to acknowledge our BTWW team and also the alternative transport participants who either walked, carpooled, used transit or drove a hybrid vehicle.
