Countdown To Campbell River's Bike To Work Week 2011
This year’s Bike to Work Week (BTWW) is only six weeks away. May 30- June 5 marks Campbell River’s fourth annual participation in Bike to Work Week BC. Each year, BTWW encourages people in all BC communities to cycle to work, while celebrating dedicated commuter cyclists.
“It’s a great way of promoting daily physical activity for healthy students and better learning”, says Peter Terpstra, Principal of the Campbell River Christian School and BTWW Committee member.
BTWW participants can meet their fellow commuter cyclists at these exciting free events:
· Monday May 30, 6:30 – 8:30 a.m. Breakfast Celebration Station (Rehab In Motion 2315 South Island Highway)
· Tuesday May 31, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Bike Shorts Film Festival (Sportsplex)
· Wednesday June 1, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Barbecue, Bike Marketplace, Helmet Decorating and Bike Shop Tricycle Challenge (Sprit Square)
· Thursday June 2, 6:30-8:30 a.m. Breakfast Celebration Station (Campbell River Christian School)
· Friday June 3, 6:30 – 8:30 a.m. Breakfast Celebration Station (On the Rocks Climbing Gym and Outdoor Addictions)
Cyclists dropping by the events can enter for amazing draw prizes and enjoy great food from the sponsors.
In 2010, Campbell River had the most teams participate, the most kilometers cycled and the greatest amount of greenhouse gases saved when compared to other BC communities with similar sizes and population.
Help Campbell River maintain its top position by starting a team at your school or workplace. Team Leaders will receive a BTWW T-shirt and swag bag. Starting April 15, team leaders can register their team online at www.biketowork.ca.
Campbell River’s BTWW Committee will also be at the Tidemark Theatre for the City and School District 72’s Earth Week Event on April 20 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. to answer questions, register teams and have Team Leader packages available for pick-up. Register early to ensure you receive one of the 100 Team Leader packages and t-shirts available.
